Odoo RFID integration · Built by NavyBits

Odoo RFID integration that counts a whole shelf in one pass.

An Odoo RFID integration connects your RFID tags, readers and printers to Odoo Inventory, so your team can receive, move and count stock by reading many items at once. Odoo's own RFID support works with one reader model and one tag format, so most businesses need a custom module. We've built them for a jewelry group in Saudi Arabia and for Promod's stores in Lebanon.

RFID vs barcodes

What RFID changes compared with barcodes.

Your Odoo stock doesn't change. What changes is how fast and how often your team can check it.

01

You read a whole box at once.

A barcode scanner has to see each label, one at a time. An RFID reader picks up every tag in range, through cartons and bags, so a full delivery or a rail of garments is read in a single pass.

02

Every piece can have its own code.

Each tag carries a unique code (an EPC). Odoo can then tell you which ring or which jacket is where, as well as how many of each product you hold.

03

Counting stops being a yearly event.

Walking a store with a handheld reader takes a fraction of the time of a barcode count, so you can count every week and catch shrinkage and wrong stock levels while they are still small.

04

Reads are fast, but they aren't perfect.

Metal, liquids and tags packed tightly together can hide a few items from the reader, and every item still needs a tag. A good setup plans for this with the right tags, the right reader positions and a clear rule for items that don't answer.

How it works

How RFID works with Odoo.

Three things have to be settled before anyone buys hardware: how a tag code becomes a product, which devices produce the reads, and which stock operations use them.

The tag code

Each UHF tag holds a code. Tags printed to the GS1 standard (SGTIN) carry the product's barcode and a serial number, so Odoo can work out the product from the code itself. Tags that come with other codes are linked to a product, or stored as a piece's serial number in Odoo.

The readers

Handheld readers send their reads to a phone or tablet over Bluetooth, or type them in like a keyboard over USB or Bluetooth. Desktop readers sit at a counter for one piece at a time. Fixed readers and gates at a door or a loading dock read whatever passes, with nobody pressing a button.

The operations

Receipts, internal transfers, inventory counts and deliveries. The reads fill in quantities on the standard Odoo operation, and Odoo shows what is missing or extra before anyone validates it.

What Odoo does on its own

Since Odoo 18, the Barcode app can read RFID through Odoo's Android app and one Zebra handheld reader. It accepts UHF tags in a single GS1 format with numeric serial numbers. Other readers, tag printers, fixed gates and your own tag codes need a custom module, and that's the part we build.

Use cases

What we can build with RFID in Odoo.

A typical setup for each, adjusted to your stock, your stores and the hardware you choose.

Retail receiving and store counts

Read a whole delivery against the purchase order, then count the shop floor and the stockroom with a handheld reader. Garments that arrive already tagged by the brand can be read as they are. Odoo for retail →

Warehouse transfers and cycle counts

Check a pallet or a tote as it moves between locations, and run cycle counts on one aisle at a time without stopping the warehouse.

Jewelry tagged per piece

A small UHF jewelry tag on every piece, printed in-house, with its weight, purity and price on the piece's record in Odoo. A tray or a display case is counted in seconds. Gold Manufacturing →

Jewelry repair and after-sales

Every piece a client leaves for repair is traced from the boutique to the service center and back. See how it works ↓

Deliveries and dispatch checks

Read a packed order before it leaves, so a missing or wrong item is caught at your door rather than the customer's.

Asset tracking

Tag tools, equipment, laptops or display stands, and see in Odoo where each one is and who has it.

Use case · Jewelry after-sales

Jewelry repairs, traced from the boutique and back.

A typical setup we can build on Odoo Repairs, Inventory and Barcode, for jewelers who send client pieces to a workshop or a third-party service center.

01

Intake at the boutique

The piece gets an RFID tag, and its tag code becomes the piece's serial number in Odoo. The repair order holds photos of the piece and the client's signature.

02

A scan at every stage

Intake, sent to the service center, received there, repaired, back at the boutique, handed over. Each stage is one read, and the repair order shows where the piece is right now.

03

Alerts for pieces in transit

If a piece isn't scanned at its next stop within the time you agree with the service center, Odoo alerts the boutique manager.

04

Counts checked on receipt

When a bag of repairs arrives, one read shows whether everything that was sent is there. Any mismatch is flagged on the spot.

05

Service centers outside Odoo

A service center that doesn't use Odoo gets a simple page to confirm what it received and what it sent back.

06

Handover to the client

The client signs on collection, and the piece keeps its full history in Odoo for the next visit.

Delivered

RFID projects we've delivered on Odoo.

One or two sentences of context.

KSA

A jewelry group in Saudi Arabia

The group already ran RFID every day and wanted to keep its hardware. We built a custom Odoo module that prints RFID tags on its existing tag printer and reads tags with its Bluetooth readers and its desktop readers.

LB

Promod's stores in Lebanon

Promod's stores in Lebanon run on Odoo, and the store team receives goods and completes its stock operations with RFID.

Assessment

We map your stock flows, check your tags and any hardware you already own, and agree on which operations will use RFID. Typical assessment: around $3,000.

Hardware advice

Choosing RFID hardware.

We don't sell hardware. We help you choose it and connect it to Odoo.

01

Start from what you already own.

Printers and readers you already use can often be connected to Odoo. That's how the Saudi jewelry group kept its equipment.

02

Pick the tag for the item.

Hang tags or labels for garments, small loop or dumbbell tags for rings and necklaces, and on-metal tags for tools and equipment. Metal is hard on RFID, so jewelry and assets need tags made for it.

03

Match the reader to the job.

Handheld readers for counts and receiving, a desktop reader at a counter or a repair desk, and fixed readers or gates at a door or dock.

04

Test on your own floor first.

Display cases, metal shelving and crowded rails all change how well tags read. A short test in one store before you buy for all of them saves money.

Questions

Questions about RFID and Odoo.

If yours isn't here, bring it to the call.

Does Odoo support RFID out of the box?

Partly. Since Odoo 18, the Barcode app can read and write UHF tags through Odoo's Android app and one Zebra handheld reader, with tags in the GS1 SGTIN-96 format and numeric serial numbers. Other readers, tag printers, fixed gates, desktop readers or tags with your own codes need a custom module.

Which Odoo version and edition do we need?

Odoo's built-in RFID features need Odoo 18 or later, including the current Odoo 20, and the Barcode app, which is part of Odoo Enterprise. On the call we look at the version you run and what your setup needs.

Can we keep the RFID printer and readers we already have?

Often, yes. For a jewelry group in Saudi Arabia we connected Odoo to its existing tag printer and to its Bluetooth and desktop readers. The assessment confirms what your devices can do.

How accurate is an RFID count?

Much faster and more complete than counting barcodes by hand, but not perfect. Metal, liquids and tags packed tightly together can hide items, so we plan tags and reader positions around your products and test them in a pilot store first.

How much does an Odoo RFID integration cost?

Every project starts with an assessment, which costs around $3,000 for a typical project. After it we send a quote for the module and the rollout. Tags and readers are a separate cost that depends on how many items and locations you have.

Who supports it after go-live?

We do. We train each team, maintain the module through Odoo upgrades and help when a reader or a process needs changing. See Odoo support.
